While lamenting the unfairness of flowers being only for women in the ‘Ask Men?’ page of reddit, user Lbprince99 asks ‘what are men's favourite flowers?’.

As a professional Rangiora Florist, and knowing social media is the BESTEST place to gain factual answers, I painstakingly sifted through the hundreds of comments so you don't have to (you're welcome). As a result I proudly present the top ten list below. Of more interest might be what didn't make it in the list (also presented below) so come on the rollercoaster ride that is:

10. Daisy (2.2% of commenters)

This is a legit nice choice. A humble flower. Easy to find, cheap, effective and representative.

9. Dahlias (2.2% of Commenters)

Now Here's a nice flower, What form what shape what symmetry.

8. Hydrangea (3% of Commenters)

Considered an old fashioned charmer, This easy cultivator is having a re-surge in new designs.

7. Gardenias (3% of Commenters)

Nice Fragrance, long bloom times, and great wedding flowers. I was excited to see this one on the list, well done fellas.

6. Bird of Paradise (3.7% of Commenters)

This South African Native is an awesome feature to play with in floral designs. Large paddle like leaves, long stems and a beak like flower with a crest coming out the top. Why, its a little bird!

5. Tulips (4.5% of Commenters)

What a classic here, bright strong colours and almost all the colours. Long stems & bold cup shaped.

4. Iris (4.5% of Commenters)

This six petalled beauty fills more space that they appear due to their three upright and three drooping petal arrangement. A great show flower for sure.

3. Orchid (6.7% of Commenters)

It's in my top 5 and it's made number 3 here. What's not to love about this luxury flower. One commenter mentions it just lasts longer as a cut flower. Kudos to you!

2. Rose (11.2% of Commenters)

Quick to get in front of the haters, one commenter notes that its not just an easy thoughtless choice, he claims to know other flowers, he just likes a rose is all! He's definitely not alone.

1. Sunflower (13.4% of commenters)

It's Sunflower for the win. It's in my top 5 and it's number 1 for these fellas. Big Bold Bright Yellow, the Sunflower makes a statement and has an undeniable presence.

Controversy!

11.2% failed the assignment

A large percent didn't understand the instruction instead commenting with some form of tree or plant or literally saying 'a plant'. Love a plant for sure...but...that's not the assignment here.

5.2% getting high

A large percent favoured cannabis flowers. Although the market has spoken, I don't know how to legally work that into a bouquet yet.

4.5% want food

Half a burger, edible flowers, flour, just anything to eat. 4.5% of these fellas just wanted some food, and damn right I say. I'm hungry too, Lets eat.

Controversial Answers from the fellas

Flower Grumps & Touching Moments

They could have ignored the post, they could have said nothing. Instead some grumps made the effort to write their distaste for flowers to which Lbprince99 enjoyed answering along the lines of: so what's your favourite flower?

Countering this, it was nice to see the amount of traditional style charming flowers in some comments. Commenters were generally connected to them through a memory of a relative, maybe the smell that brings them to mind, much like my freesias.

Conclusions: It's all just a bit of fun

Well that's about it for this blog and look, it's just a bit of fun really, there's nothing that can be concluded from any of this other than a few people commented to a particular user on a particular reddit page.
